Power and Empower through the Library

Brenda Langstraat, Chicago Public Library Foundation

The Chicago Public Library Foundation believes in the power of libraries to empower communities. For more than 30 years, the Foundation has connected individuals, corporations, and organizations to building a stronger and more equitable Chicago by investing in transformative programs at the library that give children the brightest possible start in life, teens the opportunity to realize their potential, and help Chicagoans bridge the digital divide. One such program is YOUmedia. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, YOUmedia is a safe space for teens to discover their interests, pursue their passions, and learn critical skills that will prepare them for life after high school.

Brenda Langstraat, President of the Chicago Public Library Foundation, will discuss the work of the Foundation and the public-private partnership model that has made Chicago Public Library #1 in the US and #3 in the world. She will also talk about the role of Chicago Public Library as the cornerstone of Chicago communities.
