Bennett: I wanted to talk to you about an exciting project, Federal Hill Commons...what is that?
Bennett (guest): It was initially designed as an economic incubator to extend the downtown to the west side of the river. It turned into an amazing ampitheater, commons and gathering space. It will hopefully then pump blood out into the development potential on that side of the river. I'm a park guy but I understand the economic value of that as well.
Bennett: And you've got a great downtown anyway.
Bennett (guest): Absolutely. We're blessed with an amazing, historic, authentic downtown. There was a lot of opportunity on the west side of the river. This park is just the start of it. Blue Sky Technology moved in, mainly because of that park.
Bennett: What will this area include?
Bennett (guest): We opened it up May of 2017 and had a fantatic season. We have concerts, a tribute series, special events. It's the new location of the Farmer's Market featuring permanent power, restrooms and a great location we call now The Marketplace at Federal Hill Commons.
Bennett (guest): We've even been doing Food Truck Fridays; it's an urban park and meant to be walkable. We're targeting the working population. For them to get out for an event or for food trucks, etc.
Bennett: Is it open year round?
Bennett (guest): It is year round. That was one of the things we heard from the public about. It is designed to accommodate an ice skating rink. Hopefully we'll get a lot of kids out there this year. It's unique to the community and the are...we're expecting a fantastic turnout as we turn Market Plaza into Ice Plaza.
