Laurel Hess

Laurel Hess serves as a host of Comcast Newsmakers in Michigan. She is an Emmy® award-winning news reporter who has worked in nearly every media market in the state of Michigan, most recently for WDIV, the NBC affiliate in Detroit. She has been recognized six times by the Associated Press and twice by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for Excellence in Reporting. She has had numerous national appearances including Today, MSNBC, and Rivera Live.

While a reporter for NBC in Detroit, Hess was responsible for researching, gathering and reporting the lead story on a nightly basis. After leaving the television news business, she put her reporting skills to work in both the automotive world and the world of travel. She spent several years producing and reporting for an automotive magazine show for PBS, and providing weekly radio automotive reports and travel reports for the Michigan Talk Network.

Hess has ventured outside of the world of television and now also provides public relations assistance, media training and corporate video production to clients that range from start-ups and nonprofits to America’s largest corporations and agencies.

Hess attended the University of Michigan and majored in communications. She is married with two sons.
