Ann Wasser, Severson Dells Nature Center

Severson Dells Nature Center is one of six partners in the 815 Outside initiative. 815 Outside provides two resources to help people find their place to get outside in Winnebago County. The first is the 815 Outside website and the second is the 815 Outside Facebook page. There is a growing body of research that shows the positive mental and physical health benefits of spending time in nature and Winnebago County is fortunate enough to have almost 20,000 acres of publicly accessible green space.

March 5th 2020 Artists’ Ensemble Theater will open Cry it Out by Molly Smith Metzler; a new play that looks at the lives of three very different women, all of whom are new mothers. The life adjustments that women must make after childbirth is has gotten very little attention in film or Theater. At it’s core, the play looks at the tragically short amount of time that mothers are allowed for maternity leave in this country, and how impossible it is to sort out all the attendant issues, financially and otherwise, of new parenthood in that small window.

The Rockford Public Library Nordlof Center (RPLNC) was gifted by Richard Nordlof in 2013. The building contains the J.R. Sullivan Theater, Walmart Computer Lab, a black box theater, and six other multi-purpose rooms. In July of 2019 RPLNC welcomed New Genres Arts Space, its first artist residency program for digital arts. The spaces come to life with a variety of events that enrich the community’s educational and cultural offerings; Community Theater, forums, film series, nationally known musical performers. The Rockford Public Library is in the design process for a new replacement Main Library.

Informed Citizens

The LWVGR is the local chapter of LWVUS and LWVIL. We are a non partisan organization. We will never endorse candidates or political parties. We study issues pertinent to the running of an effective efficient government. After complete study, we arrive at policy positions. We then educate the public on our positions. As our name suggests, our primary focus is to make sure all citizens exercise their right to vote. We believe an informed citizen is necessary to our Democracy. To that end, we study issues and arrive at our positions. We are hosting a Presentation on the need for a Complete Count of the 2020 Census on September 17, 2019 at Second/First Church. Our panelists include representatives from the City of Rockford, Rockford Public Schools, United Way and Rockford Public Library, Coalition of Latino Leaders and NAACP.

We are promoting our 30th Juneteenth Celebration next year. We need help to make the 30th Juneteenth Celebration one to remember in Rockford. We will be selling Juneteenth bracelets for $5 to raise funds for our biggest celebration. ICRG will continue to help people find jobs and turn their lives away from crime towards education.

Natural Land Institute, a not for profit organization since 1958 conserves and protects our natural land and waters. Working together with our partners and our community, we safeguard the resources and places that are essential to our health and well-being, wildlife and the economy. Healthy habitats are essential for ecological processes such as capturing carbon in healthy soils, trees and plants, recharging our groundwater where our drinking water comes from, cleaning our air and water, and storing floodwaters as well as providing habitat for pollinators for our food supply. Our vision is that people understand that they are a part of nature, not apart from nature.
