Transforming Lives - 5:17
with Chris Lambert, Founder & CEO of Life Remodeled

Life Remodeled exists to bridge people across divides in order to help transform each other’s lives – investing approximately $5 million in cash, labor and materials into one Detroit neighborhood each year. Projects are determined by the community’s needs and vision. Life Remodeled partners assist in three areas: Remodeling a community asset, repairing owner-occupied homes, and mobilizing 10,000 volunteers to beautify 300 city blocks in six days. Every phase is about people transformation, those served and those who are serving.

Impacts of Toxic Stress and Learning in the Classroom
Center on the Developing Child of Harvard University reports that toxic stress response can occur when a child experiences strong, frequent, and/or prolonged adversity such as physical or emotional abuse, chronic neglect, caregiver substance abuse or mental illness, exposure to violence, and/or the accumulated burdens of family economic hardship without adequate adult support. Becky Carlton, Director of Strategy and Partnership for Michigan's Charter School Association, joins host Laurel Hess for a discussion on how toxic stress impacts learning in the classroom.
