Repeal of the Sweetened Beverage Tax
- 4:36Peter Silvestri, Cook County Board of Commissioners
The Cook County Board voted to repeal the Sweetened Beverage Tax on October 11, 2017. The tax was projected to bring in $200 million in revenue for 2018. In passing the 2018 budget, the Cook County Board had to find a way to fill the $200 million gap left by the repeal of the tax. Commissioner Silvestri discusses his initial vote against the tax, his vote in favor of the repeal, and how the commissioners and the president came together to pass a balanced budget.
