Chicago's 1st Residential School for Urban Youth - 4:36
Valerie Groth, Ryan Banks Academy
Posted Dec 13, 2017
In September 2018, Ryan Banks Academy, a new middle school and high school, will open its doors and transform urban education. The RBA mission is to build Chicago's first residential school for urban youth. Our long term plan involves new construction for our permanent location so that our students can stay at RBA 24/7, but that won't occur until 2021. In the interim, our first three years we will be a day school/boarding school hybrid model, where our students attend class only at RBA (staying with their families while in Chicago) and our school year will also include multiple longer, 2-4 week extended excursions and "experiences" which will allow our students to explore new environments and cultures. RBA is named in honor of a CPS student who was shot and killed at the age of 12.
