Bill Abplanalp, Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club discusses their program which was founded in 1931. All activities are run by youth leaders ages 13-25. Their program teaches leadership skills and helps to teach leadership skills.
The James R. Jordan Foundation is dedicated to creating networks of support for families and communities. They exist to strengthen families, motivate youth and ensure high quality academic opportunities for children in under-served communities. Together with their partners, they make a difference. "Waubonsee Community College operates two TRIO Upward Bound grants from the U.S. Department of Education to assist low income and potential first-generation college students in completing high school and earning a post-secondary degree.
The five-year grants, which total $2.6 million, fund a current, ongoing project at East Aurora High School and a new project at West Aurora High School through 2022.
Services from the programs include tutoring, educational and career planning, college visits, cultural enrichment activities and assistance with the college admissions process. Chicago Child Care Society was established in 1849 as Chicago Orphan Asylum, one of the first social service agencies in the city. Today, at 168 years old, its services are reaching 600 children and youth each year - and growing - in Chicago's south side neighborhoods, along with supporting their parents. Preschools in Hyde Park and Englewood have space for 134 students, infants to 5 years old. Early Head Start families are receiving home visits and services. High school and middle school students are mentored and prepared for college or work opportunities. Parents receive support and referrals to stabilize and strengthen their family. CCCS vision is to disrupt multi-generational poverty in Chicago's under resourced communities.
Gordon Eggers, Jr, Crusader Community Health discusses their dental program serving 14,000 children, 52,000 patients annually and involves a sliding fee scale. Crusader Community Health has rated 98% in their last patient survey.
