The Laker Effect is the collective impact of the Grand Valley State University community on individual students, West Michigan, our state, and beyond. It's a force for positive change. The Padnos College of Engineering and Computing offers undergraduate programs in engineering, computer science, information systems, and occupational safety and health management. Graduate programs are offered in engineering, medical and bioinformatics, and?computer information systems. The college also provides courses in support of non-engineering and computing students through a variety of minor programs. Impacts of Toxic Stress and Learning in the Classroom
Center on the Developing Child of Harvard University reports that toxic stress response can occur when a child experiences strong, frequent, and/or prolonged adversity such as physical or emotional abuse, chronic neglect, caregiver substance abuse or mental illness, exposure to violence, and/or the accumulated burdens of family economic hardship without adequate adult support.
