In FY2015/2016, Operation Fuel provided more than 3 million dollars in energy assistance to nearly 8000 low income households in CT. Executive Director, Karen Adamson joins Eric Clemons to discuss the year round need for fuel and how you can help.
In 2015 more than 7,000 youth participated in the Boys and Girl Clubs of Hartford's services and programs, which are designed to provide the skills they need for future success. Club President and CEO, Sam Gray, discusses the programs with Eric Clemons.
There are 1,000 mentors working with an equal number of children this year, and Nutmeg Big Brothers-Big Sisters has created 65,000 relationships between "bigs" and "littles" over its 50 year history. President and CEO, Andy Fleischmann explains.
According to the International Labor Organization, 27 million people are involved in human trafficking. More than 20 million Americans cope with vision loss, and that number is growing due to baby boomers reaching retirement age and beyond and higher survival rates for premature babies, many with multiple disabilities. Paul Schroeder of American Foundation for the Blind discusses efforts to be sure that technology is accessible to this population.
Schroeder stated, "Vision loss...can be very tough and it is difficult for people to adjust to. Most people lose their site... as they are aging."
