Over 29 million people visit The National Mall in Washington, DC each year and wear and tear from high usage rates has taken its toll. Townsend stated,"There's a huge need ... Congress can't take care of it all. Right now, the National Mall alone has about $840 million worth ... of backlogged, deferred maintenance."
