Pediatric Brain Tumor Research with Robin Boettcher
""A lot of people don?t know that children can get brain tumors, and for a long time, children?s brain tumors were treated like adult brain tumors, using that research and not focusing on children."
Brain tumors kill more children than any other form of cancer. However, the federal government spends less than one percent of its entire childhood cancer research budget on the disease. Robin Boettcher, President and CEO of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation discusses the organization's efforts to increase funding.
In discussing the need for research funding, Boettcher stated "A lot of people don t know that children can get brain tumors, and for a long time, children s brain tumors were treated like adult brain tumors, using that research and not focusing on children. ... Survival rates have improved, but there s a very high cost often associated with that survival. Lifelong, debilitating effects from vision and hearing loss to difficulty walking, talking, growth can be stunted."
