30th Annual Career and Education Day One of the largest career exploration events for middle and HS students in the US. 12,000 attendees. 52 career panels. Over 1200 volunteers. It's a free event for the entire family. Free lunch, childcare and tax advice. Parent Track is conducted in Spanish and English, and includes: Models of Success (parent/student panel), College 101, Career Options and Parenting Skills Middle School Program - will feature Patrick Perez, Hip Hop artist and student empowerment speaker. He speaks at their level - he's not "preachy." **Comcast is a supporter of the Houston Hispanic Forum on Career & Education Day. Latinos are the least educated ethnic group in Houston with 68% having a HS diploma or less and only 12% have college degree or higher as compared with 22% for Blacks, 39% for Whites and 50% for Asians. In Harris County, Hispanic represent 41% of the population, the largest of any ethnic group. Half of those living in poverty in Harris County are Hispanic with 16% of Hispanic households receiving food stamps or other social assistance, compared to 4% of Whites households. The only way out of poverty is education!
