Team Leader, Walk for PI Houston
Posted Sep 29, 2015
This year's IDF Walk for Primary Immunodeficiency - Houston will be held again at Discovery Green. ' The walk will help raise awareness of primary immunodeficiency diseases (PI), a group of more than 250 rare, chronic disorders in which part of the body's immune system is missing or functions improperly It will also raise funds to support the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF) that serves as the voice of the primary immunodeficiency community in Texas and throughout the U.S. ' Approximately 250,000 people are diagnosed with PI in the U.S. Thousands more go undetected. ' The primary immunodeficiency community often identifies with zebras. This is based on an old saying for doctors: "when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras." They are taught to focus on the likeliest possibilities when making a diagnosis, not the unusual ones. However, sometimes physicians need to look for a zebra. Patients with PI are the zebras of the medical world. ' Event Name: Walk for PI Houston ' Event Date: Sunday, November 15, 2015 ' Event Time: 9:45AM ' Event Website: www.walkforPI.org
