Jaron Barganier and James Hong were offensive lineman playing for the University of Houston. In 2001, they founded Be A Champion, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to serving at-risk children in Houston and Texas. * Mission * 80 percent of Houston's kids eat subsidized, breakfasts and lunches at school. Many return to homes where parents are still at work. A typical night time meal has no nutritional value, if they eat at all. *A hungry, malnourished child is an under-educated child. They lose focus in the classroom *Be A Champion, Inc. sought, and was awarded a contract through the Texas Department of Agriculture's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). We provide FREE, nutritious snacks and meals to children in at-risk areas across Texas. *All of Be a Champion, Inc.'s meals consist of natural, fresh ingredients with no preservatives or antibiotics. They are free. (Show samples.... Sunbutter, etc) On average, Be A Champion, Inc. serves healthy meals to more than 8,000 kids a day in more than 70 schools, churches and youth organizations. *To date, Be A Champion, Inc. has worked with more than 1,515,450 children.
