Girls In Aviation Day presents a great opportunity for those who are interested in aviation and aerospace to visit Space Center Houston, airport or flight museum, or to study about famous aviators such as Amelia Earhart and Anne Morrow Lindberg (wife of Charles Lindberg who was herself an accomplished aviator) and astronauts such as Sally Ride (the first female astronaut) or Mae Jemison (the first African American Astronaut).
The Houston event is geared to 100 girls ages 10 to 17. Girls will have the opportunity to meet and speak with licensed female pilots; learn about air traffic control, see how an aircraft engine works, learn about aerodynamics and much more. The event will be held at the Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Airport. Registration and lunch are complimentary; however, those who are interested are asked to register via the website www.girlsinaviationhouston.com.

Second Chance Pets (SCP) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization dedicated (a) to providing unwanted pets a second chance through foster care and pet adoption programs, (b) to educating the public about proper care for their own animals and about animal welfare issues, and (c) to working with the public, other rescue groups, and public officials to help resolve the problem of animal overpopulation. SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. Its activities are centered primarily in Clear Lake, but the rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Bay Area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Most animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found. To contact SCP, send an email message to firstname.lastname@example.org. A volunteer will get back to you.
