17-million people watched on TV, as Bruce Jenner came out as a transgender woman. That's one famous person. But many of us know someone - a relative, friend or co-worker, who is transgender. With a public declaration, Jenner debunked the common misconception that gender identity and sexual orientation are linked. Jody Huckaby, the Executive Director of PFLAG National joins Robert Traynham for a discussion about Transgender Issues. Huckaby states, "The sad reality is that almost 40% of those people who are homeless - those young people - are people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. And many of those young children are actually transgender. And so family support is critically important. A lot of young people don't have that family support."
