100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston
We are committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African-American community based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice, and integrity. Nationally, there are more than 105 chapters, more than 10,000 members, and we impact more than 100,000 youth annually through our mentoring and youth development programs. Always men of action and dedication, the 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston has many accomplishments, most notably:
' We have awarded over $100,000 in college scholarships to promising 1st and 2nd year college students.
' Yearly since 1996, members have conducted a food and toy drive, which has benefited thousands of kids. Additionally, in 2005, in partnership with the University of Houston and Santa's Elves, we donated 75 new bicycles and more than $3,000 in gift certificates to Houston families in need.
' Our mentoring program hosted at Texas Southern University, allows our members to mentor young African-American males in life experiences that help the mentees develop a positive self-perception and self-respect, establish and pursue lifelong goals, promote healthy personal relationships and encourage excellence in education.
