Managing Director, Houston Grand Opera
?Sondheim's macabre masterpiece, Sweeney Todd - the demon barber of Fleet Street - returns to HGO. Illustrating its commitment to musical theater, HGO was the first opera company to mount Sondheim's musical thriller, Sweeney Todd, after its opening run on Broadway.
'?In May, we are excited to present El Pasado Nunca Se Termina (The Past Is Never Finished), which is an opera featuring the internationally renowned ensemble Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. El Pasado is a follow up opera to the 2010 premiere, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna/To Cross the Face of the Moon - the world's first mariachi opera - which captivated audiences in not only Houston, but also in Paris, San Diego, Chicago, and Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona and was brought back to Houston in 2013.
'?The upcoming 2015-2016 opera season has something for everyone. A few exciting productions are Puccini's Tosca, Rodgers & Hammerstein's beloved classic, Carousel, and we are continuing the cycle of holiday operas, with Little Prince.
'?In the last few seasons, HGO's audiences have come from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, as well as from at least 23 foreign countries to experience the company's unique artistic vision.
'?HGO is the only opera company to have won a Tony, two Grammy awards, and two Emmy awards.
