Boys and Girls Country is a Christian home for children whose families are in crisis. The children who live at Boys and Girls Country have been through some sort of trauma whether it's neglect; drug, alcohol or domestic abuse; homelessness or loss of an immediate family member. Regardless of their situation, they come to Boys and Girls Country with hope in their hearts. Through our program, we are able to provide kids with a stable home environment and an education. Our children attend Waller Independent School District schools and many go from having C's and D's to earning A's and B's or even honor roll status. In order to help raise our children, we host two large fundraisers a year. Our first for this year is Spring Festival. Spring Festival is a family oriented event offering a variety of games and activities for kids of all ages including: ' Children's games and activities (petting zoo, train rides, and crafts); ' Sports activities including a rock climbing wall, basketball toss, football throw and Bungee Trampoline; ' Food and beverage booths; ' Silent and Live auctions and raffle; ' Live entertainment (Austin Crosby, Caryssa Treider, Almost Heaven Bluegrass Band, Percussion One); ' A Priceless Pre-Owned Possessions booth where you can find that treasure you've been looking for. New this year: Our inaugural Petal for a Purpose Bike Ride. If you are wondering if petal is misspelled, it's not! As a play on words, we are using the spelling of petal instead of pedal and incorporating the flower from the Spring Festival logo into the Petal for a Purpose logo. Petal for a Purpose will bring cyclists from the Houston area together on Saturday, May 2, starting at 7:30 a.m., to raise money and awareness for Boys and Girls Country. Several of the teens living at Boys and Girls Country are cyclists themselves, and it has taught them self-confidence, time management and good sportsmanship. After the ride, participants can enjoy a free lunch and lots of family fun at the 36th Annual Boys and Girls Country Spring Festival. Spring Festival has become a mainstay in the Northwest Houston community, attracting over 3,500 people to the Boys and Girls Country campus for games and activities for children, young adults and the young at heart. New games this year include Wrecking Ball Carnival Ride and Meltdown (inspired by TV Show called Wipeout). Returning favorites include our Rock Wall and Zip Line. Admission and parking is free. Lunch and activities are affordable for the family. $10 for adult lunch plate $8 for child (12 and under) lunch plate $20 all-day activity pass for kids ages 4 and up $8 all-day activity pass for kids ages 3 and under Petal for a Purpose Bike Ride - $35 before May 2; $40 May 2 All of the proceeds benefit Boys and Girls Country, a Christian home for children from families experiencing crisis. Despite obstacles, our children are guided to becoming self-sustaining and contributing adults. Boys and Girls Country does not rely on federal or state grants for ongoing support and is not a United Way member agency. Contributions come from caring individuals, businesses, civic groups, churches, and foundations. No child is ever turned away because of their families' economic status.
