Elena Russo speaks with Major Dave McDowell, Assistant Sheriff with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, about the heroin epidemic. They recently introduced a program called SOLID, Sheriff’s Outreach to Loved Ones in Distress, in order for sheriff’s to play an enforcement roll in drug cases. This program allows officers to respond to the case after the event so they can offer the family resources so they can try and prevent this from happening again in the future. The families can be provided training to have Narcan in their home, which is a drug that counteracts the effects of heroine and can bring people back to life if they have overdosed and died.
