Fueled by national service, City Year Chicago recruits, inspires and mobilizes emerging leaders as full-time tutors and mentors who empower at-risk Chicago Public School students to reach their highest potential. City Year Chicago currently deploys 230 AmeriCorps members on diverse teams into 26 Chicago Public Schools.
City Year Chicago’s Executive Director, Rebeca Nieves Huffman, served as a City Year AmeriCorps member for two years (1998 and 1999). During her service, she led a team of Corps members at Piccolo School of Excellence in the Humboldt Park Community, the same community where she grew up. Since her years of service with City Year Chicago, Huffman has dedicated her life’s work to ensuring quality educational opportunities for students in neighborhoods of limited resources.
